ADAS Calibrations After Windshield Replacement

Recalibration of your vehicles forward facing camera system is recommended after having a windshield replaced.  An Increasing number of
new cars are equipped with a new technology called ADAS, or Advanced Driver Assistance Safety Systems and include Lane
departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, as well as others. In most
cases the system sensors are integrated into the windshield and once disconnected or disturbed during the replacement process it should be re-
calibrated to make sure it is working properly. Even the smallest change to the position of the forward facing camera can result in a dangerous change
in the systems function.

ADAS Calibration features

ADAS Calibration consists of two types and varies by vehicle:

  1. Static Calibration. The static calibration consists of targets set out at specified locations so that the computer and camera may identify them and understand where your vehicle is positioned in relation to them. This process is done in our shop and generally takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete.
  1. Dynamic calibration. The dynamic calibration takes place while driving your vehicle. We will need to take your vehicle for a short drive. We plug in
the Autel system to your ODB port under the dash and run through the menus to make sure the camera can identify specific road markings. The
systems communicate with one another and the vehicle computer lets us know when the calibration has been successful. Please note, Oftentimes,
calibration cannot be done if rain or snow obscures lane markings, or other factors make it impractical or unsafe to drive at the required speeds.
Once the calibration is complete, the technician creates a digital record that will then be attached to an electronic copy of your invoice, which is a
requirement for payment by your insurance carrier. A digital copy can be emailed to you upon request.
